Things to do if I teach this course again

F2003

• Add policy on course attendance
• Build a set of possible projects
• Discard term paper
• Add to requirements and design:  The idea of this document is that I should be able to take your document and design or implement a system that looks like the one you intended (separate text for requirements and design).  Ask: does your document provide enough detail for me to do this?

Current (F2001)

• Emphasis on UML
• Consider case studies

Previous

• Add to the requirements specification document
• Divide homework into two chunks: Shorter (less credit) questions as this semester, but also several larger projects such as
  • Requirements analysis and definition from textbook problem
  • Several design exercises: ER, DFD, OOD, Functional
  • It worked out well to do these larger projects as group assignments with a mixture of groups (not the same people in each group each time)
  • The object-oriented assignment could be a robot arm.
• Require sign-off meetings with each group, scheduled during last week of class
• Clearly list penalities for late submission of documents, esp. term paper.
• Strongly consider three exams instead of two. I think this is working out well.
