Study Techniqes that Work
Here are (somewhat edited) brief descriptions of how two students who
earned very high scores on Exam 1 (Fall 2010) studied for that exam.
- Student 1 Comments:
- First I looked at the online test archive. I choose the two most
recent tests and looked over those problems, wrote down all my
questions or problems that I couldn't do, and then I went in during
office hours to get help on them.
- Then I went back and worked through all of the problems on the two
tests.
- Then I read over my class notes and made sure I could do all of the
example problems.
- Student 2 Comments:
- Reviewed all of the homework problems, made sure I had the right
answer and understood why the correct answer is what it is.
- Looked through all of the previous exams to get a feel for the
style of the tests. For the ones I understood, I would usually set up
the problem. If I didn't have any idea what to do on a certain
question then I asked you or other students how to do it
- Memorized the various helpful properties, theorems, and
trigonometric identities.
