Project Demo Requirements
Spring 2022
Presentations
At each of the "demos" during the semester, your team is required to prepare and orally deliver a short presentation on your progress, detailing to the class (and to me) the current status of your project, including road-blocks, contingency plans, and whether your milestones are on-track. Each group will get 20 minutes to present, but should leave time for questions and the inevitable technology delays.
Your check-in presentation must include the following information:
- Background: Remind the class, very briefly, what your project is about.
- Timeline: Show your timeline, and where you are currently. Defend any edits you had to make to your timeline.
- Previous Work: Remind us where you left off in the previous demo, and what problems you were working towards solving. (Doesn't apply to first demo.)
- Progress: Detail all progress you’ve made since the previous demo. When appropriate, give us an actual demonstration of any relevant deliverable you’ve produced.
- Next Steps: What are your objectives for the next check-in?
Your "demo" presentations will be graded on the following items:
- Adherence to Your Timeline — Large group projects are often hard to scope out very far, so some wiggle room and remediation is to be expected. But an utter lack of progress, with no obvious explanation, is unacceptable. You will be penalized if the progress between demo sessions is minimal.
- Team Work — Every member of the team is to contribute equal amounts of work. I reserve the right to direct detailed questions to any member of the team.
- Question/Answer — Set aside a few minutes for questions or feedback on your project. Your response to questions should be coherent and relevant.
- Presentation Quality — It doesn't have to be perfect, but please put some effort into your slides and other visuals, and give some thought to what you're going to say. Don't go over time, and cover the required topics above.
Group Participation Scores
At each of the demos, every capstone student will also be expected to assess the level of participation of their teammates and themselves. Read the group assessment page again, and follow the instructions at the bottom of the page. Let me know if you have any questions. I expect your assessment data by the end of the week where demos are being performed!
