Exam #2 Topics

The second exam will cover Sections 7.1-7.4 on wireless and mobile networks, including 802.11 details. We've talked in more detail about 802.11's channel-sharing mechanics than the book does, but I'd expect you to have a grasp of its behavior as described in the finite state diagram we developed in class, for example. (Also, note that the old exam asked a question about the 802.11~ implementation project as well.)

The exam will also cover Sections 3.1-3.8 on the Transport Layer. As always, you can expect an emphasis on the material I've chosen to discuss in class. In particular, make sure you understand the state diagrams in Section 3.4 showing the series of protocols implementing reliable transfer. I always enjoy asking questions about those diagrams! Those sections cover the general mechanisms employed by the Transport layer, as well as specifics of UDP and TCP.
